As the successor to Iconic JRD Tata, with whom Ratan Tata, shared an interest in flying, it was a crown not easy to carry but Tata not just carried the Tata legacy well but also set new benchmarks and inspiring many established and rising business leaders with his leadership.
India has lost a great stalwart, a man of integrity, says Zia Mody
Zia Mody, who knew Ratan Tata for nearly 25 years, sharing her thoughts with FE Online on the passing of Ratan Tata says, “throughout my association with Ratan and The (Tata) House, I respected him as a man of integrity who didn’t compromise when making any business decision.” She found him as one who “always did what he thought was right.” As someone who knew him well, she saw in him “a man of few words but innately perceptive. With a wry sense of humour, he was quietly charming. India has lost a great stalwart and will miss him deeply.”
Ratan Tata embodied fine human values, says Mukesh Ambani
Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director, Reliance Industries, in his reaction describes Ratan Tata’s passing as “a very sad day for India and India Inc. Ratan Tata’s passing away is a big loss, not just to the Tata Group, but to every Indian. At a personal level, the passing of Ratan Tata has filled me with immense grief as I lost a dear friend.”
Reflecting on his association with Ratan Tata, Ambani says, “each of my numerous interactions with him left me inspired and energised and enhanced my respect for the nobility of his character and the fine human values he embodied. Ratan Tata was a visionary industrialist and a philanthropist, who always strove for society’s greater good.” With the demise of Ratan Tata, Ambani says, “India has lost one of her most illustrious and kind-hearted sons. Mr Tata took India to the world and brought the best of the world to Bharat. He institutionalised the House of Tata and made it an international enterprise growing the Tata group over 70 times since the time he took over as Chairman in 1991.” He concludes with a condolence message “on behalf of Reliance, Nita and the Ambani family I send my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved members of the Tata family and the entire Tata Group.” Adding, “Ratan, you will always remain in my heart.”
